Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participants should be able to:

1. understand Terrain Model, Digital Elevation model, Contouring
2. Identify sources of mapping data and information for the production Digital Terrain Modelling
3. understand a step by step process of generating Digital Terrain Modelling and orthorectification
4. Carry out practical exercises in the generation of digital terrain models

Course Content

1. Definitions; Electronic Terrain modelling, digital terrain modelling, digital elevation modelling
2. Basic concepts of digital elevation modelling
3. Sources of mapping data for the production of digital elevation models; Global positioning systems, Total stations, aerial photographs, satellite images.
4. Digital elevation model and orthorectification
5. Practical exercise in the generation of Digital elevation models
